Hi Perumal:
Looks like you are confused with percentile and percentage. They both are not the same. Percentile is a method of relative grading.

Say Sam has got 90 percentile. It means that out of every 100 people, 90 have scored below Sam. I hope this helps you.

Dthe D,

An anomaly, perhaps? Anyway, that is not my intention to defend the college. It was just to point out that you have indeed made a wrong assumption that percentile and percentage are one and the same.

This is what I understood.

The three are marks from three different boards.

1. CBSE
2. State Board
3. Some other board

They just see how the entire population in a board has performed and then rank you accordingly.

It is generally believed that the TN State Board marks are much higher than the CBSE overall marks. Therefore, it is necessary for them to resort to percentile and some kind of "relative" ranking system to bring all under one scheme.
